Scaredycat Skills to help you run your business Your way
“Only 1 in 3 UK entrepreneurs is female: a gender gap equivalent to ~1.1 million
Female-led businesses are only 44% of the size of male-led businesses on average, in terms of their contribution to the economy, and male SMEs are five times more likely to scale up to £1million turnover than female SMEs.”
– The Alison Rose Review of Female Entrepreneurship, 2019 https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-alison-rose-review-of-female-entrepreneurship
Picture this. In 2011, a woman stands in her local Waterstones bookshop, looking at the Business section. Row upon row upon row of books written by men about their business journeys. Where are all the women?
Picture this. In 2012, the same woman (yes, you guessed it, me!) goes to networking events surrounded by men in suits and connects with the few other women in the room in the queue for coffee or in the loos.
Now, in 2021, there are some business books written by women BUT still so few in number compared to the blokes!
Now, in 2021, there are loads more networking opportunities for women business owners. Ask me and I’ll share some of them with you.
BUT, alongside a very low number of female business founders now sits all the stress and strain of a global pandemic. As the Alison Rose Review stated, there is no silver bullet to help female entrepreneurs but many of us can help to reduce that gender inequality.
I can help you:
= get confident in your public speaking, pitching and communication skills
= work through your initial business idea, including your values and your value proposition to your ideal customers, potential partnerships, adjusting your idea for these strange times, rates, purpose and packages.
= figure out what’s got you stuck in your business and how you can adapt and change. Here’s an Insight Paper on how Sarah C. did just that.
Please note that my background is in small business and the creative/digital industries (as well as public sector) so if you’re looking for other specific sector advice, a mentor rather than a coach might be what you’re looking for.

The big why for me?
I focus on helping women in business develop confidence so they can say yes to public speaking opportunities, leading meetings or project teams and being heard and understood in what is still a very male-dominated world. As women, we need to all work together to encourage, support and enable each other to feel confident and passionate about what we do and who we are. My aim for Scaredycat workshops is to help that happen.
I work with you in 1:1 sessions and I facilitate 2 hr, half day and whole day group workshops.
Group workshops for public speaking confidence
Scaredycat public speaking workshops are fun interactive workshops that help to build confidence in all things communication:
- Presentation skills including voice coaching and body language
- Business communication skills (including telephone and active listening skills)
- Interview communication skills
- Confidence building for leading meetings and project teams.
So many of us need help with our communication skills but even reaching out for advice can be scary! That’s where these workshops come in. Scaredycat workshops are suitable for team-building days, leadership and management programmes and groups.

“Two hours focusing on two things was perfect – you didn’t try to change the world, just gave two keys skills and practice that moved me forward. Love your sense of humour too!!”
“I did a talk to 80 guests at a charity ball last week and did it without notes, just a couple of words on cards. People laughed in the right places, clapped at the end and said I was a ‘great and engaging speaker’. Hooray!! I couldn’t have done that three weeks ago so thank you again.”
“It was great to take a step back and think about how I use my voice and how I can improve. The part on breathing was great as was the introduction of face massage.”
